7/26-8/3
Bennie got settled into the NICU at St Charles and was doing well. She did have to have a breathing tube placed for a couple days to get some more surfactant for her lungs. Then she did well on cpap after that. Her head/brain ultrasounds were clear of any bleeding. She also had an echo of her heart that looked good and a kidney ultrasound as well. She was tolerating iv nutrition through her picc line and was doing well with gradually increasing her breast milk feedings through her OG tube. On 8/3 they were able to remove her picc line and she could get all of her nutrition from fortified breast milk.
I got to hold Bennie on 7/31 for the first time and it was such a special moment.

Joe got to hold Bennie on 8/1 and she loved it! She loved to hold his finger and it was such a sweet time.

Joe and I got settled back in at home and started to figure out our schedule for visiting the NICU while also trying to allow for rest after a very stressful week. We were so incredibly thankful for the meal train support from friends and family. We were starting to wrap our heads around what our new normal might look like for the next couple of months.
